The Waxers demonstrated
for the second consecutive night, this time in their own rink that they are definitely a
team to be reckoned with as they have turned the corner. Markham dominated once again in
their 9-4 triumph with perhaps a six minute stretch that spanned the end of the opening
period and start of the second where perhaps fatigue threatened to set in. The Waxers are for real and they won't be outworked too often from
here on out and when they work hard they will win a lot more than they will lose.
For the second straight game in as many night the Waxers struck first, this time Bryan Lachapelle converted
during a powerplay from Kevin Tompkins
and Locky Gelinas less than a
minute into the contest. Brett Barrer
scored before the five-minute mark to make it 2-0 from Rob Bumbaco and
Ian Malcolm drawing assists.
Lachapelle hammered home his second of the night at the 13-minute mark and the Waxers were
up 3-0. Tompkins and Mike Clarke
picked up assists on Lachapelle's conversion. Stouffville would score twice before the
period concluded, the second a powerplay effort as it appeared that fatigue threatened to
become a factor for the Waxers late in the opening frame.
WORTH
NOTING... |
Markham's dedicated to hard work and
strong team play continues to pay dividends on the scoreboard as they now have scored 16
goals in two straight decisive victories Clarke
with his three assists now has five in the past two games
Lachapelle continues his excellent play
recently and appears ready to have a tremendous finish to the season
Sisca had himself a four-point effort as he
continues his consistent play
Waxers sit on their lead this night after leading 5-3 after
two? How about four third period goals and hammering 23 shots at the
opposition to leave no doubt |
Malcolm scored on the powerplay, his 28th of the season from Barrer and Jimmy Ball to extend the advantage
to two goals and give the Waxers a 4-2 lead. Give Stouffville credit though as they
wouldn't quit and 39 seconds after Malcolm's goal they cut the lead to one once again.
David Colucci scored what would
become the game winning score with just 37 seconds left in the period on a feed from Daniel Sisca and Markham had a
5-3 edge after 40 minutes.
The third period was all Markham and it didn't take long to realize that as Malcolm
notched his second of the night, 29th of the season from Barrer and Bumbaco and took
the wind out of Stouffville's sails if they had anything left at that point. Colucci (from
Clarke and Sisca), Sisca (from Rob Mazzuca
and Clarke) and Joel Kitchen
(from Colucci and Sisca) all added to the Waxer scoreboard in the final frame.
Tom Lawson made his third
straight start in net for the Waxers and made 33 saves to earn the victory, including 16
in the first period alone.
Once again a complete team effort, sure there was a short letup but that could be
excused after a tough game in Newmarket the night before. More importantly the letup was
brief as the entire club picked things up and wouldn't allow themselves to lose and
furthermore weren't just satisfied with an "eked-out" victory but instead
decisively out-worked the opposition and they were rewarded for their effort. EDITOR
