A real Jeckyll and Hyde type of effort for the Blue and White in their first game of 1999 ended in a 7-6 loss in North York.

A slow start saw the Waxers down 2-0 after five minutes but then they turned things around for the remaining part of the period. Ian Malcolm scored on a wrap-around goal from Brett Barrer to halve the lead at the 11 minute mark. Then David Colucci, from Joel Kitchen and Kevin Tyrrell, scored his first of two on the night with a blistering wrist shot past the screened North York goalie. The period ended 3-2 when Mike Clarke scored off a faceoff from Kevin Tompkins and Rob Mazzuca in the final minute of the opening frame.

The second period saw the Waxers falt and North York tied the score at 3-3 on the powerplay with under 3 minutes left in the period. North York jumped ahead 4-3 just 2 minutes in to the third before the Waxers again turned it on and scored 3 unanswered goals.

Kitchen tied the score at 4-4 when he converted a centering pass from Robert Burrows at the 9 minute mark. Then, on one shift and 29 seconds apart Daniel Sisca set up his two linemates on separate 2-on-1 breaks for goals as first Mazzuca and then Colucci scored to up the score to 6-4. Lawne Snyder and Jim Ulcar also picked up assists. Then the wheels fell off the bus as North York scored a minute alter at the 15 minute mark, then on the powerplay at the 17 minute mark and finally shorthanded with 9 seconds left in regulation to steal the victory from the Waxers. This game was the epitome of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory for the Markham Waxers. RH
