After Thursday night's disappointing loss to the Hurricanes the Waxers turned in a solid effort, albeit, against a much more inexperienced Durham squad that has struggled mightily all season. Durham struck first for their one and only goal with four minutes remaining in the opening period after Markham totally dominated the play for most of the opening frame, often controlling the puck in the Huskies end for shifts at a time.

Bryan Lachapelle's powerplay goal with an assist to Jason Goldenberg tied the game before Markham took control in the second period. Ian Malcolm scored the first of his three on the night less than a minute into the period with assists to Daniel Sisca and Goldenberg capitalizing on a powerplay opportunity.

Moments after the Waxers took the lead, netminder Mike Lee faced a strong challenge as he made a spectacular, sprawling stop on a Durham attacker that broke free for a clearcut breakaway. The boxscore won't show you, but Lee's save might have been the turning point in the contest as it seemed to take the wind out of the Huskies sails for the remainder of the night.

Thirty second after Lee's big stop, defenseman Alex Stoyan scored his first goal of the year, also his first as a Junior (earning his first point of the season) to extend the lead to 2. Locky Gelinas and Ryan Bayliss earned assists on Stoyan's score. Three minutes later Sisca made it 4-1 as he converted a setup from Kevin Tompkins while he was manning the point for the Waxers third powerplay goal, Lawne Snyder earned the second assist. Malcolm's second of the night midway through the second from Brett Barrer and Jimmy Ball gave the Waxers a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The third period saw the Waxers continue their dominate play as they outshot the Huskies 27-4 (unofficial) to complete the trouncing. Jim Stamatopoulos scored his first of the year from Lachapelle and Snyder to make it 6-1. Snyder's powerplay goal from Sisca and Robert Burrows was quickly followed by Malcolm's hattrick goal assisted by Ball and Barrer. In the last minute of the contest Chris Petracco scored the final tally completing a play started by Stamatopoulos and Lachapelle.

Lee was solid in net when he had to be as he went the distance to earn the victory. Coach Russ Herrington who wasn't satisfied with the effort in the loss to the Hurricanes had to be pleased with the play of his squad this night.

The Waxers now have a week between games as their next game is next Friday at Centennial Arena versus the offensively-minded Shelburne Wolves in the first game of a back-to-back games versus the Wolves.
