JUNIOR A WAXERS HONOUR PEEWEE WAXERS WITH PREGAME CEREMONY AND OFFER BEST WISHES FOR QUEBEC TOURNEY
On Friday, February 5, the Waxers were pleased to welcome the Markham PeeWee Waxers AAA team to the game versus the Wexford Raiders as the senior club's special guests.

DID YOU KNOW . . .

Wayne Gretzky holds the record for most goals scored in a game (7).

Guy Lafleur holds the record for most points in a career (43); Guy was lucky enough to play in the tournament three different years.

The PeeWee team was honoured in a special pregame ceremony as they are off to Quebec City to represent Markham in the 41st annual Tournoi International Peewee du Quebec.

This tournament, commonly known as the Quebec Peewee Carnival, is the largest minor hockey tournament in the world! It brings together teams from around the world and has been home to many future NHLers throughout its history. The Tournament is run every year in conjunction with the Carnival du Quebec, whose famous mascot, Bonhomme, is a visible participant. The tournament is the goal of every PeeWee team and is an experience that will never be forgotten.

Waxers Junior A Coach Russ Herrington walks down memory lane...Waxers Head Coach Russ Herrington still has fond memories of the year his team from Unionville participated. "I remember being in awe of the whole process. We played in the Colisee, which was home at that time to the NHL Nordiques. The first game we played at 8:00am in front of approximately 4,500 people and won in overtime. The next game we played against Beauport, a suburb of Quebec City, and the crowd was over 13,000! I can still remember spending a lot of time signing authographs in the arena - and we were only 12-years-old! It really is a piece of their heritage and it is a big deal to everyone involved." That trip marked the second time for General Manager Larry Herrington, who was behind the bench at the time. He participated as a player in the 2nd annual tournament, and even though it wasn't as big then, he still remembers it fondly.

The Waxers Junior A Hockey Club would like to extend our best wishes to the PeeWees and hope to have another ceremony upon their return when we honour them as Gold Medal Champions!
