TO GO TIGERS!
The Markham Waxers Jr A Hockey
Club wish to congratulate the Aurora Tigers, the 2004
Royal Bank Cup Canadian Junior A Champions! Their dominant
performance this year, capped by a 7-1 victory in the RBC Final,
shows all of the country that Junior hockey is still alive and well
in Ontario. Special congratulations to Head Coach Marty
Williamson, Waxer Alumni from the 1983-84 season and Joel
Kitchen, a Waxer between 1998-2000. |
ALUMNI HAVE BUSY SUMMER
OF COMMITMENTS
The Markham Waxers Alumni have
been busy this summer with all kinds of contract signings, both hockey and
matrimonial related.
Lawne Snyder ('00), who recently finished his senior year as an
All-American at Elmira College, has signed on with the Augusta Lynx of
ECHL for the upcoming season. Fellow Alumni
Mike Clarke ('99), recently
finished his first season of Professional Hockey in Britain as is firming
up details to return for another season. Alumni
Daniel Sisca ('99) and
Greg Chambers ('00) are
going to be teammates and roommates next season in Italy as they have both
signed with Mastini Varese in the Italian Elite League. And finally,
in off-ice events, Alumni Randy Fitzgerald ('96) and
Tom Lawson ('99) recently
tied the knot and are looking forward to married life. Any one with

WAXERS CONFIRM DETAILS
FOR PRESEASON
The Markham Waxers have now
scheduled 5 preseason games featuring some not so familiar destinations in
their preparations for the 2004-05 season. Beginning August 20 and endeing
September 3, the Waxers have home-and-home series with Hamilton and St
Thomas with a visit to Aurora thrown in. [details]
REGULAR SEASON
SCHEDULED TENTATIVELY SET
Many interested fans have
inquired as to the Regular Season schedule for 2004-05 and at this time
there has only been a preliminary draft produced. The regular season
is scheduled to start with Markham's Home Opener on Friday September 10.
We will post the schedule as soon as it becomes official.
ERDMANN TO JOIN GRAY AT
NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE
The Markham Waxers are pleased
to announce that centreman Evan
Erdmann has committed to attend New England College beginning in
September 2004. Erdmann will play for the Pilgrims in the ECAC East
league of NCAA Division III competition. Erdmann joins Waxers
Alumnus Scott Gray (2003) who just finished his freshman year at NEC.

WAXER HEARTS HEAVY AS
ALUMNUS STEVE THOMAS' FATHER PASSES AWAY
The Markham Waxers extend
their condolences to Alumnus Steve Thomas and his family as Steve's father
Warren Thomas passed away this past week. Our thoughts and prayers
go out to the Thomas family.
COTTREAU CONFIRMS
DESTINATION
The waiting game is finally
over as star centreman Ben Cottreau
has confirmed his decision to attend Mercyhurst College starting in
September 2004. Cottreau will become a Laker and play in the
Atlantic Hockey Conference. Mercyhurst finished second last season
after earning their first ever NCAA Playdown berth the previous year.
Cottreau becomes the second Herrington Alumnus to attend Mercyhurst after
Jody Robinson, who now plays in the AHL with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

PROSPECT AWARD AT 2004 OHA AWARD BANQUET
Ben Cottreau became the first
Markham Waxer and the second Coach Herrington Alumnus to be selected as
part of the OHA Top Prospect All-Star Team at the 2004 OHA Award Banquet,
held June 19, 2004. [details]
ASSISTANT COACH HEANEY
WELCOMES NEW ADDITION
For the second summer in a
row, the Markham Waxers are pleased to announce the birth of a first
child, this time to the family of Assistant Coach Mike
Heaney and his wife Jennifer. On May 31st at approximately 4:00
pm, Jennifer gave birth to a son, Logan Michael, weighing 8 lbs 2
oz. Mother and son are doing fine and the Waxers extend our
congratulations to the Heaney family!
COTTREAU CLIMBS UP NHL
DRAFT LIST
Ben Cottreau moved up more
than 27 spots in the recent NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings list, now
ranked 167th, projecting as a sixth round pick on the North American
skaters list.
WAXERS EVERYWHERE
WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Markham Waxers would like
to congratulate a wide variety of their Alumni and their most direct affiliate
team for winning League Championships over the past two weekends. First,
on the weekend of March 13 and 14, Waxers Alumni played major roles in the
Championship squads in both the OUA and OCAA leagues. York
University, coached by Waxers Alumnus Graham Wise (1968-69) beat
Ottawa as they secured the OUA Championship in London. The next day,
Alumni Matt Neely (1997-98,
2001-02) and Steve Nobili
(2000-02) helped led the Humber College team to the OCAA Championship
in Windsor. This past weekend, March 21st, Alumnus Jerome Dupont (1978-80)
coached his Richmond Hill Minor Midgets (featuring David
Lyall's cousin Matthew) to the OMHA Championship with a win over
Whitby. Finally, the Markham Waxers Midgets won their OMHA
Championship and now advance to the Air Canada Cup Regional Playdowns with
a 3-2 last minute victory over Brampton.
TWO MORE SELECT
DESTINATIONS IN NCAA
The Markham Waxers are pleased
to announce that Joe Rothwell and Greg
van't Hof have made their decision son where to spend next year and
both will be playing in the NCAA. Rothwell will become a Mule as he
will attend Colby College, located in Waterville, Maine. Goaltender van't
Hof will be a little closer to home as he will suit up for the Brockport
State Golden Eagles, one of the State Universities of New York.
BROOKS FIRST WAXER TO
COMMIT TO NCAA
The Markham Waxers are pleased
to announce that Nathaniel Brooks
has committed to attend University of Massachusetts-Amherst on a
scholarship and play for the Minutemen in the Hockey East of NCAA.
Brooks has committed for September 2005 at this time but any changes in
the Minutemen roster would accelerate the process to this coming
September.
COTTREAU NAMED PLAYER
OF THE MONTH BY TWO SOURCES
To finish off an outstanding
individual year, Ben Cottreau has been named the January Player of the
Month by the OPJAHL and by the hockey magazine Ontario Hockey Now.
For Ben this was his first ever South Division Player of the Month and
came as a result of scoring 32 points in the month, which vaulted him to
first place overall in the OPJAHL scoring race.
