COTTREAU NAMED PLAYER
OF THE MONTH BY TWO SOURCES
To finish off an outstanding
individual year, Ben Cottreau has been named the January Player of the
Month by the OPJAHL and by the hockey magazine Ontario Hockey Now.
For Ben this was his first ever South Division Player of the Month and
came as a result of scoring 32 points in the month, which vaulted him to
first place overall in the OPJAHL scoring race.
WAXERS BATTLE HARD BUT
IT IS NOT ENOUGH
There will be a new South
Division Champion this year as the first place St Michael's Buzzers
dispatched of the Markham Waxers by a 6-3 score in game 4 of the second
round Friday night. The Waxers battled hard and out shot the Buzzers
for the 3rd time in the series but just couldn't solve the hot Buzzers
netminder.
THIS TIME THE
SCOREBOARD TELLS THE TRUTH
St Michael's played like a
first place hockey club in game 3 and pounded the Waxers by an 8-3 score
(the last two were empty netters). Markham came out flat and could
not muster anything against the Buzzers although the game was tied 2-2
after 40 minutes. Markham returns home Friday night looking to extend the
series and their season.
DON'T LET THE SCORE
FOOL YOU
St Michael's has jumped out to
a 2-0 lead in the second round playoff series behind a 6-3 victory on home
ice Sunday. The real story of the game was their goalie, stopping 58
shots, as the Waxers out shot, out hustled and out chanced the Buzzers but
just could not get the bounces or the goals when needed. With a day
off in between games 2 and 3 the Waxers are hoping the hot goalie cools
off.
CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR IN
GAME ONE
The Markham Waxers and St
Michael's Buzzers opened their second round playoff series with a closely
contested game, the end result being a 3-2 Buzzers victory thanks to a
pinball-type goal in the third period that stood up as the winner. Josh
Jacobs and Andrew Dias scored
the Waxers goals as the two teams get ready to go back at it on Sunday in
game two.
WAXERS SWEEP
COUCHICHING WITH THIRD PERIOD OUTBURST
Rainor
Guminny scored what would turn out to be the series winning goal early
in the third period of game 4 as the Waxers swept past the Terriers thanks
to a 7-3 victory up in Couchiching. Ben
Cottreau had 2 goals as the teams were tied 1-1 and 3-3 at the
intermissions. Jeff Paisley,
Chris Korte and Derrell
Levy had the other goals. [recap]
WAXERS STAGE COMEBACK TO TAKE GAME 3
Led
by two goals from Andrew Dias and Derrell
Levy, the Waxers made like they were at the Casino up in Rama in game
three....getting down early and then storming back as they secured a 9-5
victory. Trailing 3-0 after the opening 20 minutes, the Waxers
scored 6 unanswered in the second period to take the lead for good. [recap]
ERDMANN BAGS TWO AS
WAXERS TAKE GAME
TWO
Markham grabbed a 2-0 lead in
their opening playoff series against Couchiching with a 5-1 victory 24 hrs
after
a double-OT game 1 victory. Evan
Erdmann scored twice, one in each of the first two periods while Ben
Cottreau scored the winning goal and Ryan
Olidis and Nathaniel Brooks
scored insurance markers. Greg
van't Hof stopped 29 shots for the victory. [recap]
