WAXERS FIGHT BATTLE AGAINST CANCER
The Markham Waxers took part in the Terry Fox Run Sunday, September 14, participating in support of Mrs Etoile Hoult, Coach Russ Herrington's maternal grandmother who is currently battling cancer.

OVERTIME JINX FINALLY BROKEN
Coming at the end of a busy weekend schedule, Markham travelled to Ajax Sunday afternoon for their third game in 2 1/2 days.  The Waxers and the Axemen added some extra time to Markham's weekend but a shorthanded goal early in overtime propelled Markham to a 3-2 victory securing 4  of the possible 6 points for the weekend set. WAXERS AND TIGERS BATTLE DOWN TO THE END
The Waxers one-game winning streak ended to night as the visiting Aurora Tigers salted away a 5-2 victory with 2 goals in the final 35 seconds in what was an entertaining and closely contested affair.  Markham would much rather a victory but this game against the League's elite should be a real confidence booster for the young Waxer squad. WAXERS BUST THE WIN COLUMN GOOSE EGG
It took 6 games but the Waxers have finally earned their first victory of the 2003-04 season after defeating previously unbeaten North York by a 5-2 score Friday night.  A solid team effort in what was the first of three games this weekend. [recap]

NO OVERTIME NEEDED AS WAXERS STILL IN SEARCH OF FIRST VICTORY
The Waxers met the Hamilton Jr Red Wings for the first ever time on Sunday and the teams put on a dazzling performance, ending in a 3-2 Hamilton victory.  The fast paced, competitive game lasted just 1 hour and 55 minutes.  The Waxers finally battled hard for 60 minutes and look to build on this effort as they head to a tough 3 games in 2 1/2 days weekend. WAXERS PLAY EXTRA TIME FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT NIGHT
After starting the year with three third period comebacks to force overtime, the Waxers found a new way to fit in the extra period - blow a substantial third period lead.  This time the game ended in a tie as the Pickering Panters and the Waxers tied one on at 5-5. [recap]

TORRES RETURNS TO THE BLUE AND WHITE
The London Knights of the OHL have returned forward Daniel Torres to the Markham Waxers this week after a lengthy and impressive training camp.  Torres has worked extremely hard over the summer and will improve on the depth of the Waxers forwards.  Torres will return to the lineup starting on Friday night.

WAXERS MAKE IT A WEEKEND HAT TRICK
The Montreal Canadians won the Stanley Cup one year on the strength of 10 straight overtime victories.  The Waxers finished the opening weekend of the regular season on the heels of three straight overtime losses.  This one may have hurt the most as a wild Markham comeback tied the game 8-8 with 1 second left in the game only to see Thornhill score the winner in OT for the 9-8 victory. TWO ADDITIONS MADE TO WAXER SQUAD
The Waxers are pleased to announce that defenseman David Lyall has returned to the team from the Sarnia Sting of the OHL after a lengthy stay at their training camp this season. The 1986 born Lyall will be entering his second season with the Waxers.  The Waxers have also added a forward to the mix picking up centre Nicholas Martino from Port Hope via Wexford in a recently completed transaction.  Both Lyall and Martino will suit up for Monday's game.

WAXERS MAY WANT TO DECLINE OVERTIME
For the second straight evening, the Waxers showed enormous reserve battling back in the third period to tie Newmarket 3-3 sending the game in to overtime. The outcome was the same as the opening night, however, as a Hurricane goal in the final 30 seconds left the Waxers still in search of their first victory of the season. [recap]

NORTH YORK TIPS BY WAXERS ON OPENING NIGHT
In a game reminiscent of last year's season opener, the Waxers got behind early and battled back to tie the game 4-4 at the end of regulation.  The difference came in the overtime, as North York spoiled Opening Night for the Waxers when they bagged the winning goal on a deflection goal (their third of the evening) for the 5-4 victory.
