HALLOWE'EN TURNS
UP NOTHING BUT TREATS
The Markham Waxers started off
the weekend in fine fashion, spooking the visiting Huntsville Wildcats by
an 11-2 score. The Waxers saw balanced scoring on do the "Trick"
during what was quite possibly the poorest attended game in the past 4 or
5 years. [recap to come]
MARKHAM PICKS UP
EXPERIENCED FORWARD
The Markham Waxers are excited
to announce the acquisition of veteran, 20 year old left winger Jeff
Paisley from the Newmarket Hurricanes. Paisley has played
the last three seasons with the Hurricanes putting up solid offensive
numbers and will add to the depth and leadership of the forward ranks.
WAXERS OUTLAST
HOST BUZZERS
The Waxers may (or may not
depending on what happens in the coming games) have made a strong
statement to the rest of the South tonight with a gusty 7-6 victory in St
Michael's. As expected, the game was played at warp speed the
majority of the night and was definitely worth the price of admission as
Markham scored twice to break a 5-5 tie in the third only to have the
Buzzers bag one late with the goalie out [recap]
HOT RAIDERS
TENDER STYMIES WAXERS
Markham lost Friday night to
the visiting Wexford Raiders by a 4-2 score thanks in great part to the
hot goaltending at the green and black end. The Waxers drop in the
standings as a result of the loss and now look to rebound against the
red-hot St Michael's Buzzers Sunday night. [recap]
WAXERS ADD
EXPERIENCED NETMINDER
Markham is excited to announce
the addition of veteran netminder Ethan
Gazdic. A native of Sudbury and a 1983 born goalie, Gazdic has
played the past 3 seasons in the Northern Ontario Junior A League with
Espanola and Northern Michigan.
STOP ME IF YOU
HAVE HEARD (READ) THIS BEFORE...
Markham has now set a
franchise record high for overtime losses as they were defeated just
seconds in to the extra frame by North York, 4-3. A missed
opportunity for the Waxers who held 2-0 and 3-1 leads before the midway
point of the game. [recap]
WAXERS BACK ON
WINNING TRACK
Markham hosted Vaughan for the
first time the season and proved to be unfriendly hosts as they defeated
the Vipers by a 6-2 score. The win comes just 24 hours after a
disappointing effort in Newmarket and was a result of all the ingredients
missing the night before: competitiveness, sacrifice and a balanced
attack. [recap]
MARKHAM GETS
SCHOOLED IN NEWMARKET
The Waxers made their only
trip to Newmarket this season and were shown exactly what it takes to
compete with the big boys in the OPJAHL as the Hurricanes won by a 4-1
score. Markham needs to learn from the lesson taught by Newmarket
that out working and out competing an opponent is how the victories add
up. [recap]
WAXERS THANKFUL FOR
THIRD PERIOD RALLY
For the second Sunday in a row
the Waxers came out flat on home ice, this week as they hosted the
Collingwood Blues for the only time this season. Luckily, the Waxers were
able to surge back from a 2-goal deficit entering the third period to
salvage a point in a 3-3 tie. [recap]
WAXERS TAKE SPIRIT OUT
OF STOUFFVILLE
A fairly solid game for the
majority of the 60 minutes resulted in a 4-1 Waxer victory over the
cross-town rival Spirit of Stouffville Friday night. This creates
another 2 game win streak for Markham who look to increase that to a
season high 3 gamer on Sunday . [recap]
SOLID THIRD PROPELS
WAXERS PAST VIPERS
A four goal outburst in the
third period Monday night helped the Waxers surge past the home Vaughan
Vipers for a 6-3 victory. The win pushes the Waxers over the .500 mark
again and marks their second consecutive road win . [recap]
DISAPPOINTING SUNDAY
EFFORT
In their only visit to Markham
this season, the Couchiching Terriers benefitted from a disgraceful Waxer
effort to skate away with a decisive 6-2 victory. Not much to say other
than the fact that the Waxers were just plain pathetic. [recap]
HOME AND HOME SWEEP
COMPLETE
Markham hosted Ajax Friday
night to complete a home and home set with the Axemen, which the Waxers
swept behind a 6-3 victory on home ice. The Waxers scored once in the odd
numbered periods and four times in the even numbered one to earn their
third win of the season. [recap]
