FOUR STRAIGHT AS WAXERS
WIN AT PALLADINI MEMORIAL
The Waxers finally got a win in the 'Bridge as they defeated the Vaughan
Vipers 6-4 on Monday night. Jesse
Boucher ran his goal total to 48 with a pair while Derek
Doucette scored twice as well. Pat
Porretta and Ryan Steane had
the others and Kevin Cribari had
a hat trick of assists on the evening. [recap]
BOUCHER COLLECTS LEAGUE
HARDWARE HONORED
BY GM's AS SOUTH CONFERENCE'S MVP
Second year Waxer Jesse Boucher has been voted the South Conference's
2001-2002 Most Valuable Player by the Conference General Manager's
Wednesday night. Boucher leads the Conference is both goals (44) and
points (83) and is having a terrific follow up season to his stellar
rookie campaign (35-28-63). Boucher will attend the University of
Miami starting in September and was recently ranked in the seventh round
of the NHL Central Scouting North American list. The Markham Waxers
are extremely proud of this hometown product!
WAXERS
IN HIGH GEAR AGAINST AXEMEN
The Markham Waxers ran their recent winning streak to
three games with a 10-2 pouinding of Ajax. Peppering 60 shots at the Axemen
goaltenders, Markham saw Matt Neely
and Jesse Boucher score twice
each and Derek Doucette, Pat
Porretta, Patrick Diotte, Kevin
Cribari, Michael Fish and Ben
Cottreau have singles. B.J.
Van Mierlo earned his first Waxer victory stopping 30 shots. [recap]
WAXERS
FINALIZE ROSTER WITH ADDITION OF GOALTENDER
The Markham Waxers solidified their final roster
this week when they signed veteran goalie B.J. Van Mierlo. After
spending some time in the OPJAHL (Vaughan, Parry Sound, Huntsville), Van
Mierlo has toiled the twine the past two seasons in the Maritimes, last
year in Summerside and this year in Antigonish.
THIRD PERIOD EXPLOSION
COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP
After playing listless hockey for 40 minutes, the Waxers
exploded for 5 goals in the third period en route to a 9-4 victory over the
Pickering Panthers Sunday night. Lead by the first Junior A Hat Trick of
Ryan Steane, the Waxers blew open the 4-4 tie in the final frame. Also
scoring for the Waxers were Jesse Boucher with two, Derek Doucette, Joey
Grasso, Ben Cottreau and Travis O'Rourke. [recap]
WAXERS WIN THIRD STRAIGHT
ON HOME ICE
Markham kept their home unbeaten streak alive for 2002 with
a 7-4 win over the Pickering Panthers in the first of a home-and-home
weekend Friday night. Mark Menonte and Kevin Cribari had 2 each while
Jesse Boucher, Ben Cottreau and Steve Nobili had singles. Kevin Sit
stopped 32 shots for the victory. [recap]
SOME HOLES YOU DIG ARE
TOO DEEP TO GET OUT OF
The Waxers played a strong game tonight in Oshawa but dug
themselves a 5-2 deficit halfway through the game from which they could not
recover resulting in a 5-4 loss. Markham dominated the game at times,
out shooting the hard working Legionaires 48-19, but defensive miscues
resulted directly in the 5 Oshawa goals. [recap]

TAME THE TIGERS
The Waxer turnaround continues with their second straight
win of the New Year, turning away the Aurora Tigers 7-4 at Markham
Centennial. The Waxers owned the first and last periods outscoring the
visitors 5-0 in those two frames. Kevin
Cribari's two goals (four point night) led the attack as the
offense was well spread out with singles going to Pat
Poretta, Jesse Boucher
(SH, his 40th of the year), Jason
Duffy (PP, GWG), Mark
Menonte (SH) and Jason Young.
Next the Waxers hit the road Tuesday night to battle Oshawa with the
playoffs just a month away. [recap later]

EARNS RECOGNITION:
HONORED
BY LEAGUE AS SOUTH CONFERENCE'S PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Just days after appearing in the OPJHL All-Star game, Waxers
veteran defenceman Derek Doucette
has been named as the South Conference Player-of-the-Month for December.
Derek joined Markham last year in a late season deal (with Aurora) that has
paid dividends ever since. The league's highest scoring defenceman scored 5
goals (3 PP) with 7 assists for 12 points in 11 games in the month of
December. All season Derek's been consistently averaging a point a game or
more (to date: 41 games, 12 goals, 31 assists, 43 points).
WAXERS ADD VETERAN
DEFENSEMAN AS DEADLINE LOOMS
The Markham Waxers are excited to announce the
acquisition of Markham resident Matt Neely to the squad. Neely
started his career with the Waxers and has since then played with the Oshawa
Generals, Aurora Tigers, Antigonish Bulldogs and most recently with the
Campbellton Jr Tigers. Last season Neely amassed 14 goals and 21
assists in 41 games and was named to the All-star game. This season,
Neely had 2 goals and 4 assists in 7 games played. Neely will be
wearing #13 and will suit up on Friday night when the Waxers host the Aurora
Tigers.
ALL-STAR GAME AN
EXAMPLE OF SCORING TOUCH IN JR.A
Jesse Boucher had 2 assists and Derek Doucette 1
helper as the South/East All-stars defeated the Nort/WEst All-stars 15-10
Wednesday in Hamilton.
WAXERS SEND TWO TO THE
ALL-STAR GAME
Jesse Boucher and Derek Doucette have been
selected to represent the Markham Waxers at the OPJAHL All-Star game
Wednesday night in Hamilton. Boucher, the South Division leading scorer, and
Doucette, the South Division leading Defenseman scorer, will suit up for the
South/East All-stars. The game starts 7:30 pm in Hamilton.
