Kevin's selection for such prestigious honours comes as no surprise to Waxer observers and the hockey club's ownership group, management team and Kevin's teammates all join in congratulating him on the award. It could hardly have gone to a more worthy candidate.
Three years ago he was told by the incoming management team of Larry Herrington (GM/Asst. Coach) and Russ Herrington (Head Coach) that he was going to actually play some hockey. The rest of the story reads almost like a fairy tale. In 1999-2000, Kevin's accomplishments were recognized first by his club before the year started when he was named Captain of the blue and white. At the end of the year he earned League recognition by being selected the South Division's Most Improved Player. This past season saw him earn a Player of the Month award (League) and most recently he along with Jimmy Ball represented the Waxers at the OPJHL All-Star Event. Now he has reached the peak of junior hockey personal achievement, he along with Scott Mifsud (Thornhill) were awarded Most Valuable Player of the South Division. Kevin is of course most appreciative and humbled by the recognition and is quick to point out what an honour and privilege it is and has been. He'll also be the first one to point out that his award earned a big assist from his Waxer teammates, in particular he and relative newcomer Adam Doucette form a part of a lethal powerplay unit that has the ability to control the puck completely for an entire man advantage. Currently he is focused along with the rest of his Waxer teammates in securing one of the top seeds for the upcoming playoffs and he has visions of a Championship in this his final year of Junior hockey (this is his last year of eligibility). On behalf of the everyone with the Waxers, their fans and observers well deserved congratulations to Kevin for his accomplishments to date. We along with his teammates aren't putting a wrapper on his career just yet, there's plenty of noise to come from the playoffs and the road to the Royal Bank Cup.
