SEPTEMBER 2001
ONE OF THOSE
NIGHTS AS THE BUZZERS HAMMER MARKHAM
The Waxers history of trouble against St. Mike's held form Saturday night
when the visitors hammered the home squad 9-1. A close game through
39 minutes before the Buzzers scored 7 goals in the last 21 minutes.
Albert Ferrante had the only
goal, the lone bright spot in an embarrassing effort. [recap]
WAXERS EVEN THE SCORE
WITH THORNHILL

handled the Rattlers 5-2. Jesse

WAXERS LOSE TWICE IN 14
HOURS
Two games, fourteen hours, zero points. The Waxers lost Saturday
night 5-4 in Thornhill and then Sunday morning in College Weekend to
Milton, 6-4 (the final goal being an empty netter). Not exactly the
weekend that everyone had in mind. [Thornhill

MARKHAM BACK IN
THE WIN COLUMN
The Waxers wasted no time in getting back to the win column with a
convincing 8-1 victory over Oshawa. Markham survived a tense first
period with a 1-0 lead and then blew it open in the second. Mark
Menonte had 2 goals, as Jesse
Boucher, Ryan Steane, Jason
Duffy, Ben Cottreau, Albert
Ferrante and Pat Porretta each
scored once. Nick Kemp's
shutout bid was ended with just over 1 minute left in the game. [recap]
WAXERS SUFFER
FIRST LOSS
There was a repeat of last year's second round of the playoffs as
the visiting Wexford Raiders met the Waxers Monday night. An
intense, back and forth game ensued as the Raiders came out on top 7-6 in
overtime. Jesse Boucher
continued his hot hand notching his second hat trick in just 3 games this
season. [recap]
WAXERS WIN
SECOND STRAIGHT
The Waxers continued where they left off Friday night as they won for the
second time in consecutive days, 8-1 over the visiting Vaughan
Vipers. Ryan Steane and Mark Menonte lead the way with 2 goals each
as Kevin Sit earned his first Jr A victory. [recap]

CHANGES TO WAXERS STAFF
The Markham Waxers coaching and training staff is going to look a little
different than first anticipated for the upcoming season. Goaltender
Specialist Mike McIntyre has had to resign from the position after
accepting a promotion that sees him relocate to work in New York City
effective September 1, 2001. Athletic Therapist Phil Voutier has
been hired by the Mississauga IceDogs of the OHL. In Phil's place,
the Waxers have hired Nick Kovachev.
WAXERS FINISH PRESEASON
WITH A TIE
Markham and Thornhill met again Saturday night and really settled nothing
asd they battled to a 5-5 draw in the Rattlers' home den. Much like
Thursday night's game, the pace was quick and the game was exciting right
down to the final buzzer. [recap]
WAXERS COLLECT
FIRST PRESEASON WIN
The Markham Waxers made it in to the preseason win column on Thursday
night when they defeated Thornhill 4-2. A fast paced, hard hitting
game saw the Waxers and Rattlers play a more traditional game, as the
score indicates. A big change after the lacrosse/football scores of the
first two preseason games. [recap]
