WAXERS LOSE
HEARTBREAKER AT THE SAG
Markham and Wexford squared off Sunday in what was possibly the best
Junior A hockey game played this season. The Raiders prevailed 3-1
despite being out shot 41-26, including 17-5 in the final frame. Jesse Boucher scored the only goal for the Waxers in what was a strong
effort by the entire squad. [recap]
WAXERS SWEEP
HOME AND HOME WITH AJAX
A powerplay goal by Jason Young
with 34 seconds left in overtime was the difference in a 7-6 shoot
out victory in Markham Friday night. The win was the second in a row
against the Ajax Axemen. Also scoring for the Waxers were Ben
Cottreau, with two (including the tying goal with 1.64 seconds on the
clock), Joey Grasso, Albert
Ferrante, Derek Doucette and
Mark Menonte. [recap]
WAXERS ADD
EXPERIENCED FORWARD
The Markham Waxers are pleased to announce the signing of 20-year old
centreman Joey Grasso. A veteran of the USHL and EJHL leagues in the
USA, Grasso is a native of Long Island, New York. The Waxers look to
Grasso to add some needed depth up the middle and help turn a modest one
game winning streak in to a march at the top of the standings. [profile to

BACK IN THE

Steane, Michael Fish, Pat
Porretta, Ben Cottreau and Mark
Mitchell. [recap]

Successful hockey teams are those that find ways to win hockey games. The
Markham Waxers wish they could be in that situation.
But in recent days, they've found ways to lose contests. (article)

If a 4-2 loss to the visiting Stouffville Spirit on Friday and 10-2
drubbing
absorbed at the hands of the host St. Michaelšs Buzzers on Sunday
represents
the low point of the Provincial Junior A Hockey League campaign for the
Markham Waxers, head coach Russ Herrington would gladly accept it at this
stage in the season. (article)
THE GOOD NEWS IS
THAT THE WEEKEND IS OVER
That is really the only good news for the Waxers as the losing streak
stretched to 3 games on the heels of a 5-3 defeat in Vaughan.
Outshooting the Vipers 40-16 did not do the Waxers any good as the home
team scored the winning goal with under 2 minutes left and then added an
empty netter. [recap]
WOES CONTINUE AS
BUZZERS CURSE STRIKES AGAIN
The scoreboard sometimes tells a different story than what happened on the
ice. That may have been the case Sunday in St. Mike's as the game
was a closer contest than the 10-2 score indicates. The Buzzers
simply capitalized on their chances while the Waxers struggled around both
nets. [recap]
SNATCHING DEFEAT
FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY
One goal leads seem to be kryptonite to the Waxers, proven once again in a
4-2 loss to Stouffville Friday night. Jesse
Boucher and Derek Doucette
staked the Waxers to a 2-1 lead entering the third period but the Spirit
scored three unanswered goals for the victory. [recap]
SAME SCRIPT,
DIFFERENT ENDING
For the second time this week, Aurora and Markham played an overtime
game. This time, the game ended in a 4-4 draw on Sunday
afternoon. Ben Cottreau, Pat
Porretta, Steve Nobili and Michael
Fish scored for the Waxers. [recap]
WAXERS CALM
HURRICANES AND WIN AT HOME
Home ice was the answer in the second game in consectutive nights as the
Waxers topped Newmarket by a 4-2 score Friday night. Ben
Cottreau, Ryan Steane, Patrick
Diotte and Jason Duffy had
goals and David Digironimo
kicked out 30 shots en route to the two points. [recap]
WAXERS NORTHERN
TOUR NOW STANDS AT 1 WIN, 1 LOSS
The Markham Waxers are in the midst of a 5 game Northern Division
crossover set in the schedule. The record is now 1-1 after losing
Thursday night in Newmarket, 5-1. Michael
Fish had the lone goal for the Waxers who out shot the Hurricanes
32-22. [recap]

BOUCHER TO
MIAMI TO BE A REDHAWK IN 2002
Leading scorer Jesse Boucher has
made a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship to Miami (Ohio)
University beginning September 2002. This is the first in what the
Waxers hope to be a number of Division 1 scholarships for this year's
squad. [article]

OCTOBER 2, 2001 There
are times when Markham Waxers head coach Russ Herrington cannot get a
pulse on his Provincial Junior A Hockey League clubs.
Last weekend was one of those which had Herrington scratching his head.

WINNER BY BOUCHER TAMES TIGERS
Markham squared off against Aurora in its first of four meetings this year
and came away with a 6-5 overtime victory behind Jesse
Boucher's goal just over one minute in to OT. It was Boucher's
second goal of the evening as Travis
O'Rourke, Patrick Diotte, Pat
Porretta and Ben Cottreau had
singles. David Digironimo picked up his first victory as a Waxer in
his first start. [recap]
MARKHAM ADDS VETERAN

with the Blues and Streetsville over his two years in the league, is
