WAXERS TAKE ONE ON THE
CHIN IN HUNTSVILLE BUT LEAVE THE WILDCATS TREMBLING IN THEIR WAKE
Markham could do nothing right in the first
two periods, falling behind 6-1 but then with about five minutes remaining
the offensive gears unleashed their fury upon the Huntsville cage and they
closed to within 7-5 (the seventh goal an empty netter), there was no
doubt that if the clock had an additional couple of minutes on it that the
Waxers would have pulled out the win. The offensive explosion late in the
third and the complete collapse of the Wildcats as they cowered beneath
the scoring might of the Waxers was something that had not been witnessed
by many oldtimers, at any level, let alone Junior. [recap]
WAXER UNITED WAY
FUNDRAISER A SMASHING SUCCESS
Saturday the Waxers participated in a
United Way Fundraiser with the assistance and co-operation of Markville
Mall and selected retailers of the same establishment. It proved to be a
great opportunity for the public to meet the Waxer players and to assist
in raising funds for a worthwhile cause. [story]
WAXERS
RUN INTO HOT NETMINDER BUT BATTLE TO EARN WELL-DESERVED VICTORY
For the second time in as many games the
Waxers faced off against the North York Rangers and ran into excellent
goaltending. Jimmy Ball's
powerplay goal in the third period, stepping in from the point to roof a
wrister to the glove side turned out to be the winning goal in a
fast-paced contest. Other Waxer tallies came from the sticks of Bobby
Fitkin, Jesse Boucher
and Robert Burrows.
Paul
Guthrie provided solid netminding for the boys in blue and made an
outstanding kick save with 28 seconds left to preserve the win. Saturday
the Waxers are at Markville Mall in a United Way fundraiser from 11:00 to
2:30 before departing by bus to take on the Huntsville Wildcats in their
only visit to the north country. [recap]

BREEZE OVER THE WAXERS
Finally it appears that the severely
compressed schedule the Waxers are in the midst of has taken it's toll.
Newmarket took advantage of a tired Markham squad and earned a 3-1 victory
Thursday night, in the battle of first place clubs. Without a doubt the
heroic performance by netminder Paul
Guthrie kept the Waxers in the hunt, turning away outstanding
scoring opportunities time and time again. Bobby
Fitkin score the lone Waxer goal who look to regroup and prepare
for the Ajax Axemen who visit Markham Centennial tomorrow night at 8:00pm.

SLEEPWALK TO SEVENTH STRAIGHT VICTORY
Monday night the Markham
Waxers proved that on a bad night they are still capable of blowing out an
opponent, this time 8-3 over the Huntsville Wildcats. A sloppy, slow-paced
game with spurts of excellent action the Waxers realized that clearly they
have to do much better job without the puck. [recap]
